Will the Hypothetical Errors of the Non-Infallible Papal Magisterium Always be “Safe” to Assent to? If Not, Can we Resist? And is Resistance a Protestant Reaction? – A First Millennium Perspective  

According to the famous Papal document entitled Satis Cognitum, the logical foundation (as opposed to the legal/ontological basis and origin) of the Papal office is to serve as God’s visible form of divine assistance that provides a visible principle of unity for all Christians such that they might be certain by uniting with said principle they are truly assembled and joined to the one and only Church of Jesus Christ. Therefore, this “papal principle” of unity must possess a binding and compelling influence that is conducive to one’s vital unity with Jesus Christ. It cannot be, therefore, that the person of the Pope can exercise his office to compel Christians to break their vital bond to Jesus Christ through whatever means, especially sin or heresy. The very definition of the Papacy is to be a constant help in the Church’s unity with Christ. The authority of the Pope, therefore, must be consistent with this.

It is, therefore, a true anomaly if we had a situation where the Pope were to utilize his authority in order to break the vital bond between Christians and their bond with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a clear contradiction and falsification of the whole foundation of the Papacy is realized if the person of the Pope were to exercise his office contrary to truth.

St. Braulio of Zaragoza (585-651) – Melchizedek and the Last Supper

As I continue to read through the Saints and Doctors of the Church, I am amazed at the nuggets one will find. In this case, I came across St. Braulio of Zaragoza (585-651), one of the best Christian writers in 7th century Spain after St. Isidore of Seville. His letters were preserved in the Capitular Library of Léon (9th c. Spain). Some of his letters were exchanges with St. Isidore. In one particular letter written to a priest abbot Tajo, includes something particularly noteworthy considering my book on Melchizedek and the Last Supper. If one reads this carefully, you can clearly see that the offering of the bread and wine is equal to the offering of Christ’s body and blood as the victim of the New Covenant sacrifice according to the order of Melchizedek (sometimes spelled Melchisedech):

“Let us turn what is true and firm, to what most assuredly keeps any Christian and good Catholic from doubting or quibbling: namely, that through the sacrament bread and wine 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒐𝒅 become for us the true Body and Blood of Christ, according to the words of the Lord Himself and Sacred Scriptures composed by the Holy Spirit, which sacrament the Catholic Church 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒂𝒓 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒆𝒍𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒇, 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕, with mystical understanding and an ineffable dearth of speech, because surpassing grace goes beyond everything.”
